Our client was found guilty of owning pitbull-breed dogs, which are illegal in the UK and often associated with dog destruction. After the judge initially ruled for the dogs to be destroyed, our defence lawyers swiftly filed an appeal to protect the dogs’ lives and save our client’s pets from destruction. Thanks to a comprehensive investigation and a determined legal battle, the judge approved the appeal, thereby saving the dogs’ lives from being destroyed.

Mr. U was arrested following a visit from the police to his residence, where they discovered two dogs in the backyard. Upon inspection, the officers identified the dogs as pitbulls, a breed classified under the category of potential “dog destruction” due to their illegal status. Despite Mr. U’s warning to the police about not approaching the dogs, one of the officers, having had prior encounters with one of them, proceeded. At the time, Mr. U was under an exemption order for the older dog but had unfortunately missed an insurance payment for it.

After Mr. U contacted us regarding the dog destruction case, our criminal defence solicitors immediately began their own thorough investigation, to ensure that no stone was left unturned, and that the evidence was objective and unbiased. Furthermore, our defence lawyers gathered witness statements and character statements to attest to our client’s level of care for the dogs, and to prove that the dogs were not involved in any violent, aggressive, or threatening behavior. Despite the substantial evidence gathered that proves our client’s good character, the judge passed a destruction order for both dogs – essentially decreeing that both should be subjected to dog destruction. Recognizing the cruelty behind this decision, our defence lawyers immediately filed for an appeal

During the appeal, our criminal defence lawyers passionately and empathetically argued against the accusations of dog destruction, demonstrating that our client has taken exceptional care of his pets. They submitted scientific proof of the pets’ non-violence by collaborating with veterinary experts. Recognising the cruelty of the initial sentence that implied dog destruction, the court granted our appeal, opting for two exemption orders instead. While this did limit some of the areas our client could visit with his dogs, he was immensely grateful for the outcome that ultimately saved his dogs’ lives.
