Our criminal defence solicitors recently represented a client facing grave charges of rape, ABH (actual bodily harm), and harassment. The case began when our client, a university student with a promising future, found himself entangled in serious accusations from his girlfriend. Their relationship, which had started like any other, took a dark turn when one morning the police arrived at his doorstep to question him about these severe allegations.
These accusations had a devastating impact on our client’s life. The complainant had a history of emotional instability and self-harm. Our client had intended to take their relationship seriously, openly declaring his intentions and even considering marriage. However, he felt increasingly used and hidden away. When he threatened to inform her parents about their situation, the complainant called the police, resulting in his arrest on charges of harassment, actual bodily harm, and even rape. The seriousness of these charges threatened to ruin his life and future.
Upon taking over the case, our defence lawyers understood the gravity of the situation. Our client’s future was in our hands, and we were determined to prove his innocence. The allegations of harassment, actual bodily harm, and rape against him were baseless and motivated by the complainant’s desperation to prevent our client from revealing the truth about their relationship. Our first step was to challenge the evidence presented against him. Our rape solicitors discovered a crucial discrepancy: the complainant’s mother had allegedly provided a statement in English, despite needing an interpreter; indicating that the complainant’s sister had provided the statement.
Our defence lawyers also highlighted inconsistencies in the complainant’s statements about our client. Contrary to her claims, we found bank statements showing that it was the complainant who booked the hotels, and Snapchat records that revealed she was the one sending explicit photos and initiating sexual acts. This evidence clearly contradicted her allegations and demonstrated her active role in the relationship.
Presenting this evidence in court, we successfully argued for our client’s innocence in charges of harassment, actual bodily harm, and rape. After being remanded, he was ultimately found not guilty and released. This case exemplifies how false allegations can devastate an individual’s life and underscores the importance of a strong legal defense.
