Where you are outside of the UK and are looking to come here for either a visit, to study or to work, it is likely that you will have to apply for a visa (also known as Entry Clearance) from the British Embassy or High Commission in your country of residence. Similarly if you are coming to join relatives already settled in the UK you will need to apply for the specific type of visa applicable to you. All of these applications must be accompanied by specific evidence without which the application will most likely be refused (with the loss of the substantial application fee). If you are in the UK on a temporary basis and wish to extend your stay (known as leave to remain), the possibility of doing so is dictated by the category you are currently here in. The rules vary greatly and the type of application you make can have important consequences such as the length of time you will need to spend before you apply to settle here. Stuart Miller Solicitors are experienced with dealing with all types of extension applications and our team can quickly advise you as to all of the options available for extending your stay.
Depending upon the time spent in the UK you may become eligible to apply for settlement (also known as indefinite leave to remain). Once this status is obtained, there will be no time limit on your stay in the UK and it is usually the final step in the journey to British citizenship. In light of the diversity of routes to settlement, our expert immigration lawyers provide a personalised service to ensure you are granted settlement as soon as possible.
